4th Grade News

Hello Fourth Grade Families,

It is hard to believe that we’ve already reached the end of the second trimester!!  Consequently, your children will be working hard to “show me what they know” on end-of-trimester assessments and end-of-unit tests this week!  Be sure to give them some extra confidence booster “pats on the back” for all of their hard work!

Goal for the Week Pass my ________ and ________ math fact tests or mad minutes.

Announcements:

- Tuesday, May 21          Math MSP

Message from Mrs. Herb: The recorder unit in music class has been fun! Your child has been solidifying their knowledge of rhythms and notes through writing their own compositions using the recorders! I am proud of the work I have seen! The kids have been focused and put forth a lot of effort with this challenge of learning a wind instrument. Our unit is now finished. I am collecting all of the school recorders now. So, send them in please. (However, if your child is interested in playing their recorder in the 4th grade concert on April 2nd or continuing to test for karate belts, they may keep their instruments longer.) If you have any questions, let me know. Thank you so much for allowing these beginning musical sounds to happen in your homes!

March IXL Madness: Our “bracket” is set and students have signed up to contribute minutes to their teams! The team that takes it all gets to decorate the front of our room in their finest team spirit (to be left up for April). And don’t worry – students whose teams get bumped get to sign up for a new team to stay in play. Every student who contributes at least 100 minutes in March gets 10 class rewards!

This Week:

We’re finishing our Native American Novel Studies, completing expository writing assessments, taking Trimester 2 math tests, exploring art themes based on NW Coast designs and materials, experiencing changes in our storypath “Village”, and launching our Newbery book jacket project!

With thanks,
Emily Larson
